1930s Stahl Mandola!DESCRIPTION
For your consideration a 1930s Stahl Mandola with a Natural finish! This mandola was made by the Larson Brothers in Chicago! Carl & August Larson moved from Sweden to Chicago in the late 1880s, initially working as guitar luthiers until the opportunity presented itself to purchase Maurer & Company from Robert Maurer in 1900. This is a fantastic example of the beautiful wood work happening in Chicago at this time. Gorgeous woods used through out. The mandola is to the mandolin what the viola is to the violin (tuned a 5th below mandolin). Big lush tone, plenty bright but the lower range makes it easier on the ears. Good amount of sustain. Truly a wonderful instrument!
Specs! This mandola is in very good condition. One side crack has been repaired at the butt of the instrument. A hole on the fingerboard at the tenth fret has been filled. One screw missing from tuner enclosure. Original enclosed gear tuner with nickel cover. Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay. Bone nut with a 1-5/16″ width. Mahogany neck with a depth of .85″ at the first fret and 1.10″ at the 7th fret. It has a 16″ scale length. Bound ebony fingerboard. Original 25 tiny frets are in very good condition. Canted spruce top (Natural finish) with maple back and sides (Dark stain finish). Ebony bridge with a bone saddle. Nickel bridge with its nickel cover. Comes with a non-original hard shell case.
