    Description

Antique 8-string bowl-back mandolin with beautiful alternating, "striped" hardwood back. The label inside reads
"This is Guaranteed to be a Genuine Up-To-Date Mandolin MANUFACTURED ESPECIALLY FOR THE UP-TO-DATE MUSIC CO. 539 PEARL STREET, CLEVELAND, OHIO." "Up-to-Date" was both a 1900s instrument manufacturer and a technique for learning the mandolin, so this mandolin has numbered fret markers.
22 inches long, 8 inches wide at widest point, 5 3/4 inches deep. Neck (without headstock) 8 3/4 inches.
This instrument needs work before it is playable. Please read carefully. One of the numbered fret markers (see photos) is missing. Body, neck and headstock appear to be in good condition. Tuners and tailpiece in fair condition with rust and corrosion. Bridge is broken and needs to be replaced.
With some work this could be a very pretty, playable mandolin. My son, who plays, said it has a very nice sound, even in its current condition.
