C432 Spry, PA town band music letterhead Charles W. Leader, Mervin HildebrandExcellent condition w/ minor light age toning and a few light wrinkles. Note: On both images here, there is a small spot showing in the lower right corner. This is not on the item. It was on my scanner screen and I did not see it to move it.
This unused 1930’s letterhead is a classic piece from a critical part of small town culture - The town band. I do not know if the town band was more practiced in the Northeast or if it was universal in our country. But one of the tell-tale signs of this custom is the bandstand. Many New England towns have a bandstand, often in or near the town center. In the summer, the town bands would give concerts to the public.
In the New Hampshire town I grew up in, I remember the summer evening concerts downtown. Sadly, regrettably in the interests of the insatiable appetite for “progress and expansion”, the town tore the bandstand down in the 1960’s.
The never ending loosening of our connection to our past in the pursuit of superficial thinking.
Mervin U. Hildebrand - Business manager
Charles W. Leader - Conductor. Name Determination - With this last name, Charles was going to be either working for the railroad trains or doing what he is doing in this letterhead.
