The AKARI series of "light sculptures" was created by Isamu Noguchi over a period of 35 years starting in 1951.
The 16A is one of them, a pendant type AKARI that hangs from the ceiling.
It has a diameter of about 48cm and an asymmetrical round silhouette with bamboo strands wrapped around it at equal intervals. All AKARI shades are made by hand by craftsmen, and the logo mark is engraved on the finished AKARI.

The lighting sculpture named "AKARI" (Designer's Lighting) was created by Isamu Noguchi in 1967 as a result of an encounter between Isamu Noguchi and the Gifu lantern, a traditional industry in Gifu.
This work by Isamu Noguchi is a beautiful craft (designer lighting) unique to Japan that has been successfully revived in the modern age. Isamu Noguchi's designer lighting has been widely used in homes and stores around the world, including the Good Design Award in Japan and the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
