    Description

    Mourning Becomes Electra
    Author:
    THEATRE GUILD PROGRAM) O'Neill, Eugene
    Title:
    Mourning Becomes Electra
    Publication:
New York. New York Theatre Program Corporation. 1931
    Description:
New York. New York Theatre Program Corporation. 1931.
Theatre program in paper covers; 9 1/2 x 7 inches; 32 pp. The play is a trilogy: Part One is "Homecoming"; Part Two is "The Hunted"; Part Three is "The Haunted." The production directed by Philip Moeller and settings and costumes designed by Robert Edmond Jones. Featured in the first two plays was the Russian-born actress Alla Nazimova. Program features considerable period advertising, with several advertisements aimed at the "Dinner Intermission" clientele (the program notes a break of one hour after Part I) with restaurant meals priced at 75¢ or .00 and quick turnaround guaranteed. Advertisements also for a considerable number of "after theatre" venues featuring food, drink and entertainment, including the Cotton Club in Harlem with Cab Calloway and Orchestra. Although clearly there are persons of affluence, the program's advertising shows remarkable belt-tightening from advertisements found in theatre programs of the 1920s. Item #53490
