    Description

Pinocchio "Pinocchio Under the Sea" Courvoisier Multiplane Painting (Walt Disney, c. 1940). Full of color life, and fish! This amazing piece was created by Courvoisier Galleries to imitate the effect of Disney's revolutionary multiplane camera used to create three dimensional effects in its animation films.
The multiplane camera, first utilized in The Old Mill, placed cels and backgrounds on many different layers vertically, which created a sense of depth when filmed. This beautiful setup features multiple layers of glass, each with a screen-printed image. The top layer depicts seaweed and bubbles, while underneath are images of Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket under the sea, along with a school of fish. The glass is in front of an airbrushed background.
The multiplane setup is framed, with a frame window of 5.5" x 5" and an overall frame size of 8.5" x 8" x 1.5". The piece's frame is loose. The back of the piece bears the original Courvoisier label, noting this as Multiplane #8. The piece is rated in Good to Very Good condition by an experienced reputable Disney auction house, with some handling and edge wear. Some components can shift because of the loose frame, as such the frame is sold as-is.
