Description
I had this packed away for a long time. It is a very old round embossed quart milk bottle from an early family farm that went under in the 1940's shortly after WWII from what I have read. Embossed on the face within the round slug plate:WHITE ROCK FARM/ KENT BROS./ REGISTERED/ EAST PROVIDENCE
Above"
ONE QUART LIQUID
Directly below the slug plate on the front heel:
L.G.CO. Height is 9-1/4".
It is a full 1/4" shorter then many of the newer 1950 era round Pyro milk bottles.
Research informs me that the milk bottle manufacturer
the L.G.CO. ( Lamb Glass Company) was located in Mount Vernon, Ohio from 1921 to 1964.
The trademark is on the front heel embossed above the number 1.
It does not have the L-52 that was added from 1933
on, or any neck seals. According to my reference book: Udderly Delightful by John Tutton 3'rd edition 1998.
I believe that the bottle was produced between 1921 and 1933.
It is quite possibly a genuine antique being 100 years old or close to it. On the back heel is an embossed 21. Base is plain with no embossing.
There are numerous air bubbles within the glass and due to the age it will most likely turn color to a natural purple amethyst over time if left in the sunlight continuously. There is an article about the dairy on the internet on the East Providence historical society written by a person who was born on the farm. It was known for the White Rock Springs and giant white quartz boulders. The article goes on to state that the land was sold off piece by piece and is totally unrecognizable today. The springs are gone and the area Kent Heights is all developed mostly commercial and mixed use.
Condition is incredible! There are no cracks or chips.
All the embossing is strong and damage free.
None of the embossing is banged up.
The bottle is freshly washed. There is some minor content stain from milk. The bottle will respond well to a quick professional tumble on a bottle cleaning machine. There are some extremely light scratches easy to overlook (mentioned for accuracy of description). The base has some normal wear, however I do not see any exterior case wear with the exception of a very light scratch or two. Eleven pictures.
